KENDALL DEAN

Kendall Dean has been playing and performing the violin for almost 20 years, and has been performing as a solo act, (guitar, violin, and voice) part of duos, and bands for the past 10 years. As a child, she started out learning classical violin at the age of 8, then moved into various fiddle styles as well, with a primary focus on Irish and Scottish traditional music. She has 4 years of professional classical training and was involved in two orchestras while living in Maine, where she is originally from, and also trained professionally with a vocal coach and her mother, who is a trained vocalist and pipe organist. She's been a member of various bands, from country music to borderline metal music performing as an electric and acoustic violinist and as a vocalist. She has attended numerous workshops; including one in Dunkeld, Scotland, training with Scottish renowned fiddler, Pete Clark, and another workshop in Austin, Texas for Suzuki Teacher Certification Training. She has been getting more involved in the music scene here on Maui after a recent move to the island 3 years ago, and has been performing as a solo act at various venues. She covers an eclectic range of styles vocally and instrumentally, and is self taught in guitar. Her preferred styles include; Blues, Jazz, Irish, Scottish, Gypsy, Folk, and Country. A singer songwriter and cover artist, some of her favorite artists to cover include; Bonnie Raitt, Sarah Jarosz, Carol King, and James Taylor. She loves improvisational music and has collaborated with local musicians in the Lahaina area, including traditional Hawaiian artists such as George Kahumoku Jr. and Eddie Akio Waimakanui Tanaka Jr.
